Chuteer Ghaunta — The School Bell
I was just a child, maybe three or four when I found my mother crying. She had found out about a little boy who was trapped in his school for the duration of the summer break. The janitor had locked the bathroom without checking and turned off all the water.
The little boy wrote to his mother of his thirst with chalk on the bathroom wall as he slowly died. I cannot remember if this was a true story or a film but I could see how it shook my mother. I will always remember the best of her humanity in that memory. That she could empathize with the little boy and his mother.
